All of our materials are sourced and handled in an
eco-friendly manner during each preparation stage.
Our leather is vegetable-tanned and finished with water-based stains, and our cotton is organically farmed using only natural practices.
As a small start-up company, we cherish the
face-to-face relationships made from supporting
other local businesses. Our leather finishing company
and bag manufacturer are located in LA, and our
cotton is grown in Texas and woven in South Carolina.
emBAGS designs each bag to last. "em", herself makes sure all styles are molded into
timeless shapes, embellished with clean details,
and created with life in mind. Simply put, we design

I N S P I R A T I O N
(em) Elyse Michele: As a professional Accessories Designer I noticed a gap in the marketplace for eco-ethical handbags and accessories that stood for more than just an accessorie. I felt like there was a real niche for producing elegant, practical bags that are ethically sourced and locally produced. I knew this was something I could do well and be proud of.
Phil: Developing the em Bags brand has felt like a rare opportunity. It's not just about the product, it's about the "purpose" and doing things exactly the way we believe they should be done.
E X P E R I E N C E
(em) Elyse Michele: I'm the creative side of the business! I've been working in the women's apparrel and handbag industry for over 9 years. I have a knack for designing beautiful, functional pieces.
Phil: With an MBA and a background in real estate and finance, I focus on the business and production goals, such as sourcing and manufacturing our sutainable products.
P A S S I O N F O R P U R P O S E
(em)Elyse Michele: The word "purpose" refers to both the bags we make and the way we make them. Our bags are functional, and intended for women who lead busy, purposeful lives. At the same time, our goal as a company is to support US-based suppliers and craftsman, and to use eco-ethical materials, and our bags also achieve that purpose.
Phil: This is a massive industry, and the choices we make can have very real environmental and economic impacts. "Bags with Purpose" indicates how we want to add to the industry, both as a customer and a producer. We've taken great care and made eco-ethical decisions; sourcing materials from environmentally responsible vendors, choosing buisnesses that support local economies, and utilizing USA-based manufacturers.
